There will always be naysayers, but people new to the backcountry world don't know any of these things and need somewhere to start from. There are indeed multitudes of opinions on better ways to do things, but you gotta start somewhere. Far too easy to ruin a meal and possibly your adventure by choosing to make meals yourself if you don't know what you're doing.
I'm a fan of breakfast oats as well. I'm a larger male (6'2", 170lbs, muscular) which requires me to eat 2 scoops of protein powder and one cup of oats. Its more food that puts more of a dent into my protein and carb requirements for the morning when heading out early. I use chronometer to track my macros and AI assistance to know exactly what my caloric and metabolic needs are. It works wonders. I love it.
Haven't done a freeze dried meal in a couple years since discovering Chef Corso's recipes and methods. A little bit of extra effort and preparation goes a long ways in elevating your meals on trail!
I used to date a lady that was a district supervisor for Mountain House. She would bring home so much product. If I wanted anything she would bring it home for me yo take on my trips. It was a nice perk 😊
The Russbe bags are a revelation. The problem with prepared meals like Mountain House is how few vegetarian and vegan offerings. I pretty much make all my own meals for trips starting months in advance.
Rounded ziplocks! You never cease to amaze me Justin. Yup I got pretty sick of egg scramble after 18 days so I’m alternating with oatmeal this year. I also found I lost a lot of weight so thinking about taking some olive oil. Plus a little more salt. I should have it all figured out in a decade or two 😂
JMoneyGangster! YES! Shorts are the BIG deal right now. Keep 'em coming!! You've got enough material for 100s of these at least! Great way to grow your very wonderful channel right now. Just don't over saturate. . . that's what I see as a "fail" by some content producers.

for $12 each yikes
I bought a freeze dryer so I can make my own. It paid for itself the first time I used it.

Sesame snaps are underrated as a snack. An entire case is about 10 bucks and they have 180 calories per pack.

Not good for you.. yes I will be the one
Dehydrate food and place in a freezer bag. The rehydrate in the bag and place in a homeade reflectix envelope for about 10 mins.
Make your own…
Make your own its simple
What’s a beg?
Ive been looking for resusable bags like this for ages, thank you 😭
One meal that people don’t think of that is great for backpacking is instant mash potatoes, they are real potatoes just dehydrated.
FYI, The round bottom on plastic stand up pouches like that are called Doyen-style bottom gussets, signed: packaging nerd 🙂
Justin, can we pour boiling water into the Russbe bags, or only room temperature water?
“Beg” “baaag” lol love it
All plastic garbage
Try the seasame snaps with the little pouches of peanut butter/seed butters/jelly/jam etc
Remember In Canada it's not a Bag it's A Bahg!
Take two apple, some nuts and chocolate dude wtf buffalo
What a lot of waste…

How do you clean the bowl after using it?
Some of them taste great but the salt overload I get afterwards make it so I can’t eat them.
Are the Russbe bags good with boiling water? Wondering if I can use them for my homemade dry meals? 😍

I do oatmeal on my last day. Quick and easy- leaves time to pack and head out….. usually needing a shower and want to hurry 😂
