Footwear is dictated by season , terrain and length of trip. Go on a 10 day solo trip into the Brooks Range, or the Wrangles in trail runners. I dare you.

Carry coffee filters to pre-filter sediment laden water

Carry the stove and fuel of your choice. Keep fires to a minimum.

Nothing is better for protecting hotspots from becoming blisters that silver duct tape

Match your gear to the conditions and always plan for colder weather than forecasted.

Stay hydrated, take time to take pictures and be grateful for your time in the wild

Maybe we should throw out the standard IQ test and replace it with a 5 question quiz..

disagree on the boots, they offer much needed ankle support, they often provide protection against insect or snake bites (i hike on tropical forests), they often offer more water resistance and good boots are way more durable than good hiking shoes. people often choose heavy expensive boots with rubber soles but there are lighter ones with PU inject mold soles that last good 5 years of intense use, they have hard tips too if you plan on chopping some wood its gonna save your toes from heavy objects falling on them

I wear both different times of the year and depending on trail conditions and like both. If i had to choose one its definitely boots for ankle support and toughness. Also many boots are designed light weight these days.
